- Use flat front light and burn out the foreground. One way to do that is …
- … Use a light on the camera, full blast undiffused (as news crews tend to do).
- Switch the traditional key and fill lights positions (as beginners invariably do).
- Use a hard light for fill, the another hard one to soften the shadows it adds, ans so on.
- Concentrate on the light : ignore the shadows.
- Ignore the subject, planes, mood, and media : light by formula.
- Make sure the lighting overwhelms yours story and subject.
- Don’t let the sources in the scene motivate your light.
- Light all parts of the room or set uniformly.
- Light all planes to the same brightness.
- Keep lights at equal intensities, distances, and angles : go for lighting symmetry.
- Introduce lots of strong colors everywhere.
- Always make the background brighter than the subject, or conversely…
- … let the subject merge with its background.
- Move the subject close to the background.
- Ignore contrast problem.
- Never exced a 4/1 lighting ratio for broadcast – even with dramatic subjects.
- Trust the lab timer or video engineer to guess what you want – especially with silhouettes.
- Avoid glare at all times.
- Use undiffused hand light on shiny object.
- Put copy lights close to the camera and always use large sources.
- Try to ignore lighting consistency from shot to shot.
- Light transparent and translucent subjects from the front.
- Choose a room with 8-foot ceilings to turn into a little studio.
- Stick with raw light – only wimps refine the stuff.
- Pretend that lighting and composition are unrelated.
- Pretend that lighting, time, and movement are unrelated.
- Always illuminate moving subjects with moving lights.
To be continued...

Re: COMMENT MAL ÉCLAIRER
Meilleurs voeux à tous !
Afin de continuer à mal éclairer en 2008, j'ai la suite du Best Ways to achieve the Worst Lightning :
- Avoid available light, even when it's beautiful.
- Use all light available, even when they 're not needed.
- Put the mike boom on the same side as the key light.
- Move the zoom stick, not the camera or subject.
- Obey the light meter at all times.
- Ignore color temperature, or conversly ...
- ... neutralize all unusual, off-colors effects.
- Shoot exterior portraits with direct, overhead sun.
- Never shoot during dawn, sunrise, sunset, or dusk.
- Opt for quantity, not quality.
- Don't scout your own locations ; trust a stranger.
- Disregard shooting budgets at all times.
- Ignore safety rules.
- Always follow these rules.
Je suis certain que la liste peut être complétée...
Affaire à suivre !
